Electrology is the science of permanent hair removal utilizing only sterile disposable probe (needle) devices.  A fine sterile probe is inserted into the hair follicle and a small amount of electrical energy is discharged destroying the hair growth tissue.  The regenerative ability of the hair follicle is permanently eliminated.

It is impossible to destroy hair growth tissue without sensation.  Sensation varies for each individual.  Some find the sensation to sting, while others feel nothing more than a slight itch.  Each hair follicle is surrounded by nerve endings responsible for the sensitivity one feels during the treatment.  Sensitivity can vary greatly for each individual follicle.  The use of special creams and pain management medication can aid people with special sensitivity needs.  Topical anesthesia is available through your physician and may be applied by the client prior to each appointment.

Deep, coarse hairs cannot always be eliminated with one treatment.  Breaking down the hair growth tissue may take several treatments.  Due to the cyclic nature of hair growth, new hairs are emerging all the time.  There is a natural period of time in which hair will re-grow after temporary removal, usually 6 weeks to 4 months, and hair must reach this stage before being effectively treated with electrolysis.  Most patients find that a weekly session of 15-60 minutes is most effective.  The closer you adhere to the treatment schedule, the more effective your treatment program will be in helping you free yourself of superfluous hair forever.

Fees for Electrolysis are in keeping with those of other professional health care and aesthetic services.  In fact, the cost of a lifetime of temporary methods is often more expensive than Electrolysis.  Although electrolysis can be time consuming and tedious, you are paying for permanent results.

Laser hair removal promoters use terms such as "permanent reduction" to describe what is in most cases only proven to be a temporary method of hair removal.  Laser hair removal is still a relatively new science and has not been evaluated for long term safety of skin and health.  Electrolysis, which has been in use since 1875, is the ONLY proven, safe method to permanently remove hair with no long term side effects.

Do not confuse probe Electrolysis with the electrified tweezers now being marketed.  It is also possible to purchase probe Electrolysis instruments for use in the home, but I do not recommend them.  Since the removal process depends on the angle of insertion, an unsteady hand can result in unnecessary skin damage.  For a permanent result, a good Professional Electrologist is the best solution.
